I ALWAYS lock all of my doors. When we let the dog out in the backyard, we lock the door behind her. When she comes back in, we lock it again. Even when we are inside the house, our doors are always locked. That isn’t quite the case with many of my friends and neighbors. We live in a pretty quiet town in Utah. Some of my neighbors will leave their homes unlocked even when they aren’t there! Or their cars unlocked overnight in front of their house! (Let this be a warning to my neighbors… your secret is out!) Since we are from Southern California though, maybe we are just a bit more paranoid than the rest of my neighbors. It’s a good thing though. Even in a sleepy little po-dunk town like mine, things can happen.
One night I woke up in the middle of the night with a horrible feeling. I decided that I needed to check the doors in my house. I know that I ALWAYS lock our doors, so this was odd to me. I was about to go back to bed, but it just wouldn’t stop. So I got out of bed and started checking doors. I opened the door to the garage, and the side door in the garage was WIDE OPEN. Not just unlocked, OPEN. In the future, I wouldn’t have to get out of bed to observe this. I can now reach over and pull up my VueZone app on my phone and check the doors from my nice warm cozy bed (have you heard it’s extremely cold in Utah right now?)
I can also check my cameras from the web…
The cameras were super easy to install. They run off of a battery so they can really be placed anywhere. The little bulb type thing that it comes with feels slightly magnetic when it’s attaching to the back of the camera, but it’s movable in that location once it “sticks” just like you can move a magnet around and still have it connected to a metal object.
I love the fact that I can check on my cameras from my cell phone, tablet, or computer. My son for the longest time would still call my name to come and get him out of his room in the morning. We finally removed the baby monitor from his room (I know, he is 4… it was more than past time). Now that we can’t hear him when he wakes up he has taken to getting out of his room himself. Yay! Except for the fact that sometimes he gets out of his room WAY too early and then goes downstairs and sleeps on the couch until someone wakes up.
I love that with the night vision I can roll over in my bed in the middle of the night and check on my phone whether or not he’s still in his room. If he’s out, and it’s early enough, I can run downstairs and put him back in his bed so that when it’s time for me to actually wake up in the morning, I can do my workout without disturbing him.
Tis the season for packages, and since you can pick up and move these cameras at any time, I love being able to stick it on the little bulb in front of my house whenever I want so it can catch anyone in the act of trying to steal any packages left on my front door! Check out this local news report… http://fox13now.com/2013/12/16/suspects-caught-on-camera-allegedly-taking-packages/ Believe me, it happens. Great to be able to pull up the video, and show that to police!
There are so many reasons to have cameras set up around your house these days, and Netgear’s VueZone system is super affordable, and easy to set up. I love being able to check in on my family while I am currently away on business. Doesn’t make me quite as homesick to see them going about their day.
Disclosure: I was given the VueZone system to facilitate this review, but I was not compensated.
