My husband LOVES popcorn. I don’t think you quite understand this statement. MY HUSBAND LOVES POPCORN. He has 3 favorite foods, which are popcorn, peanuts and mashed potatoes. His mother has informed me that, when he was a child, she would get him a bag of popcorn and his little sister would try to grab a piece, and he would push her away! Or, if his mother would ask him for some popcorn, he would hand her ONE kernel, and keep munching on the rest. I have to admit that this hasn’t changed much. He’s still pretty stingy when it comes to his popcorn, but at least he is starting to share a little bit with the kids. My son is well on his way to being just like his dad…
Obsession with popcorn in our household aside…we also LOVE movies! We own several hundred DVDs and Blu-Rays. My favorite thing to do after a long day of work and then putting the kids to bed is to sit down on the couch and watch a movie. When I sit down to watch with my husband, we always have to have some popcorn. Our favorite microwave popcorn is actually Pop Secret’s Homestyle. We almost always have a box of it in our pantry. One month I kept forgetting to purchase it, and when I finally did and my husband went in the pantry and saw that we had it, he LITERALLY made a sound like Homer Simpson and quickly stuck a bag in the microwave. My favorite movie right now is a musical. I have seriously watched it over a dozen times. I could watch it again and again and again. My husband (who surprisingly HATES singing in movies but LOVES music) refused to watch it with me. I really wanted to watch it, so I bribed him with a bag of popcorn. It totally worked. You can see how excited he was to watch the movie…
There is nothing as disappointing as burning your bag of popcorn. It makes the whole house stink and tastes terrible. So Pop Secret recently released an app called Perfect Pop on the App Store*. The app is free and will detect how many “pops” are going on in the microwave. When your popcorn bag has reached critical mass (meaning the amount of popping in the bag has slowed down enough), the app will tell you to stop the microwave! We tried it out, and it worked great! Being the crazy person I am, I counted the unpopped kernels at the end of the bowl, and there were only 10! I definitely call that a success. Nothing was burned and, of course, it tasted delicious! At the end of the movie the official review from my husband was, “Better than I was expecting.” That, my friends, is a glowing review from my husband! So definitely take some time with your significant other and have a movie night of your own. Bribery with popcorn definitely goes far in this house; maybe you can get your sweetie to watch something they don’t want to see too! Follow @PopSecret to learn more about the app, or check out other projects they’ve got in the works at Pop Secret Labs.

I just toss the whole bag as I don’t like biting down on a piece of burned popcorn!

It is very rare for me to burn microwave popcorn but if I do the whole bag doesn’t go, I just pick out the burned pieces. The rest have that icky burned taste to them but I hate waste.
Air out the house, of course!
I yell profanities and give the bag an extra hard shaking
I separate the part that’s not burnt and leave the rest in the bag. Plus I adjust the time for the microwave to less time, so as to not do the same dumb thing again.
I throw it out
What to do when you burn the stuff? What can you do? Air out the ENTIRE house and scratch the idea of eating any popcorn – for days! It’s awful.

Get the bag out of the house, open all the windows, do anything possible to get rid of that awful smell!

The popcorn sometimes burns but its never been a disaster. It is just usually a quarter of the bag ruined so I eat the pieces that are not burnt.
The popcorn button on my microwave goes too long and it always burns if I don’t stand there the whole time, but I don’t have the patience and sometimes forget its there.
I always burn it so I am not allowed to make it
If I burn it I’ll usually toss it out and make a new bag–if it’s not that badly burnt I pick out the burnt pieces!

I never let it go to the point that I get a smoldering chunk of lava in my microwave, but I really don’t mind it if there is a little bit of burnt popcorn in the middle of the bag. It’s extra crispy and has an interesting texture and flavor. Yum!

Fortunately I’ve only burned one bag of popcorn. Now I watch it very carefully. I threw the burned bag in the trash and sprayed the kitchen with Lysol Neutra Air Sanitizing Spray. It does a great job of eliminating odors.

What do I do when I burn the popcorn? Cry. I try to salvage some, but usually it goes through all the popcorn. Sometimes I give the less burned popcorn to my dog, who loves popcorn.

I try to see if it’s salvageable first. If not (and it usually isn’t) I toss it in the trash and make a new bag while stomping around like an angry child 😛

I open the windows, turn on the fan and try a new bag!

If I burn a bag of pop corn…I’ll open the window, turn on the fan, cry a little…and heat up another bag of pop corn and hope the next bag won’t burn. 😛 I’ve got to try out this fun app the next time I pop. 🙂
