Netflix Documentaries You Need To Watch

Everyone loves binge watching TV series’ on Netflix.  We love to catch movies on Netflix… but how many of you are missing out on some of the most AWESOME content on Netflix… which is Documentaries!  Here is my list of MUST SEE Documentaries available now on Netflix!

Bigger, Stronger, Faster – This documentary is about performance enhancing drugs, health supplements, and the affects of all of the above.  Not just the affects on the body, but in your personal life too.  Even if you aren’t that into sports and weight lifting, this documentary is AMAZING.  It’s extremely well done.  You can tell the creator is passionate about the topic, and it’s very relevant to his life.  It’s seriously a fantastic watch.

Prescription Thugs – This is actually from the same creator/director as Bigger Stronger Faster, and is just as good, or even BETTER than his first.  It’s all about how prescription drugs are being abused and how our system allows it to happen.  This is incredibly eye opening!  There is a lot of drama and heartbreak in the film as well.  It’s really really really good.

Super Size Me – If you haven’t already watched this, you must do so.  I literally haven’t eaten McDonald’s since I watched it.  It’s not even really showing disgusting images of their practices or anything… it’s all about how bad the food actually is for you.  This doesn’t just go for McDonald’s too, even though the main focus is that particular chain.  It’s more about fast food in general, and how it’s not good for you on a consistent basis.  Never fear if you love McDonald’s though, my friend said that it made her crave it.  Again, for me, it made me avoid it forever and ever.

Joan Rivers: A Piece of Work – I remember Joan Rivers being the butt of a lot of jokes in the 80’s and 90’s, but she definitely had the last laugh.  If you ever watch her stand up, or any of her interviews, that lady was HILARIOUS.  This is an excellent documentary that portrays exactly how funny she was.  It’s touching and laugh out loud funny.

The Sixties & The Seventies – For someone who grew up in the 80’s, each episode of this series (there are 2, one is the Sixties and one is the Seventies) is really fascinating!  It was amazing to gain context for some of the most prominent events and movements of the past.

Soaked in Bleach – Is it possible that Courtney Love actually killed (or had killed) Kurt Cobain?  This documentary is like watching a real life CSI episode.  Incredibly well put together, and seriously makes you rethink everything you thought you knew about Kurt Cobain’s suicide. This murder mystery is super intense!

Lemmy – This is a great documentary to watch if you are a) a diehard Motorhead fan, or b) if you have no idea who Motorhead is.  This will give you some great insight on how he has actually inspired a ton of today’s musicians.  It has humorous, sad and shocking parts.  It’s amazing to see how Lemmy lives completely different than most rock stars!  You really don’t have to like Motorhead OR heavy metal to thoroughly enjoy this documentary.

Rush :Beyond the Lighted Stage – Much like Lemmy, you don’t actually have to like Rush to enjoy this documentary.  The 3 members of Rush have been together for 40 years!  This film will take you behind the scenes with the 3 guys who have been members of this band longer than they haven’t been together.  You will find out what keeps them together, and keeps them rocking!

Making a Murderer – I would seriously hope that this one goes without saying, and that you have already watched it.  It captivated everyone at the beginning of the year.  One of the most frustrating parts of the series too, now has a bit of a happy ending (which if you haven’t watched it yet, just go ahead and Google Brendan Dassey once you are finished).  One of the most fascinating stories you will ever watch.  Seriously.  If you haven’t watched it yet, GO WATCH IT.

Documentary Now – OK, so this is a bit of a cheat.  It’s a satirical documentary series, and it is sooo funny!  Just check out one episode, and I guarantee you will be hooked.

Now, go forth and fill up your Netflix queue.  Cause you have a lot to catch up on!
