With my renewed zeal in writing on my blog, I’ve decided that Sunday was going to be my “editorial” day. Usually it will have to do with the theme I have set in my editorial calendar for the week. This week it’s health and fitness! I’ll be kicking off the week tomorrow by talking about streaming fitness on our local lifestyle show Studio 5. I’ll be sure to include the clip in my post once it airs!
I’ve never been BIG. I’m short, I’m tiny, it’s just the way it’s always been. BUT lately I just haven’t been thrilled with the way my body looks. It’s not like I’ve let things get completely out of control, but I’m definitely not where I want to be. SO my dear readers, join me on getting back to where I SHOULD be! I’m going to be completely honest. I’m currently weighing in at 130. I know that really doesn’t sound like a lot to a lot of you, but I’m used to being about 115-120. 10-15 extra pounds on a person of my size is very noticeable. I’ll be going into further detail on a lot of the tools I’ll be using to aid in reaching my goals during this week, so today I’m focusing a little more on the big picture.
We all know how to lose weight, right? Move more, eat less, and eat healthier items when you do eat. Why is that SO hard to actually put into practice?? My main weakness is sweets. Man do I love cookies, and ice cream, and brownies, and chocolate, and cake and all of the above at once! Using an app like Habit Bull helps me maintain my “streak” of no treats. Who wants to break the streak that’s been going for 2 weeks straight?? Not I! Then I can even reward myself for reaching a goal of so many days without a treat.
I will also be using My Fitness Pal to track every morsel of food I put into my mouth. Go ahead and friend me over there (username sewkimmel). I’m typically really good about entering my breakfast, and then as the day proceeds, I fall off the pace, and forget. I’m currently on a HUGE streak within MyFitnessPal…
I also workout every morning, using any number of streaming channels. You will hear more about those tomorrow, for sure. I also wear a bluetooth heart rate monitor during my workouts so I know EXACTLY how many calories I’ve burned during the workout. This gets automatically calculated into my daily allotment of calories in MyFitnessPal, since I track the workout using UnderArmour’s Record app. I’m also a runner, so I track those using my Garmin GPS watch. If it’s not being tracked… it just doesn’t count in my book.
Speaking of tracking though, I do have several fitness wearables, again that will get into more detail later in the week, but I think it’s important to get in my 10,000 steps on a daily basis as well. There are so many devices to help you keep on track with that, and we’ll talk about the best ones.
I also drink water pretty exclusively. I rarely RARELY drink any soda. I love water though. Some new technology regarding water bottles is called Hydro Flask, and I’m OBSESSED with them! My niece is a Huntington Beach lifeguard. She will put ice in her Hydro Flask and then head to the beach for work for the day. At the end of the day, after sitting in the hot California sun ALL day, there will still be ice in her water bottle. I just make sure I drink 3 bottles a day, and I’m usually wayyyy over that.
Lastly, I’ll be tracking my weight using a smart scale. Tune in later in the week to find out which one!
