Favorite Palm Pre Apps – Game Edition

Your phone doesn’t have to be all about productivity and mobile computing!  It can be fun too!  Not that being productive isn’t fun… Cause it TOTALLY is.  The Palm App Catalog is full of awesome games too!  Here are the games that distract me while I’m in the carpool line waiting to pick up my daughter.

Tetris Mania – classic game we all know and love.  I downloaded this before the new Tetris came out, but I think I’m just going to stick with this version.  As long as they fix a bug when it goes hyper speed when resuming the game from pause regardless of your current level.  My favorite is the “sticky” mode.  I think it’s just enough of a challenge for me to keep me interested.

Monopoly – This is another classic game that is super fun to play.  My only complaints are that the computer offers some really lame trades, and offers them a lot.  The other thing is that you seem to land on community chest and chance an awful lot, and it doesn’t seem like all of the normal cards are loaded, I keep getting the same few.  Other than that it’s really fun… And the computer cheats is all I have to say about that.

Helicopter Game – I was soooo excited when I saw this hit the app catalog!  I loved it on my PC and now I can love it on my pre!  It’s really simple, and really fun.  All you are doing is trying to beat your score.

Swap & Drop – this game is like bejeweled, and is really fun for a quick game.  You can change the icons to donuts, colored circles, social media icons… Or my personal favorite…WebOS icons!  It’s fun, and there are a few different modes to up the challenge when you feel like it.

Block Breaker – While I’m not very good at this game I still like to play it.  What can I say my hand-eye coordination/speed has never been very good.  I still enjoy the game (even if I can’t make it past level 2).

There they are my favorite time wasters!  Tomorrow I will be talking about the apps I WISH I needed, so definitely stay tuned!

  • My wife has the Pre and has hardly downloaded anything so I’m going to secretly get tetris and monopoly for her. I suspect you have to pay for them, no? I’ve got the tetris song in my head now 🙂

  • I reformed myself after too many nights up late playing Tetris on my 4mb Mac SE (with internal Hard drive and floppy disk!) from 1990-1994 and vowed I would never get back into it (keep in mind, this is was in black and white, pretty arcane now, but revolutionary to me then!). I have kept pretty good to my word, until I see that image of yours up there and am basically salivating.

Meanwhile, Block Breaker is reminding me, naturally, of SuperBreakout, and the numerous paddles we had to replace on our Atari 2600. Despite their frequent breakdown, the feel of those nice paddles were so nice!

Are these apps that a consumer would have to pay for, or are they free?
