When my son was in preschool, his teacher pulled me aside at pickup one day and said “ok, we are dying to know… WHAT do you do with your son??” Confused I asked what she meant, and she said they had some free time, and my son went over to the books. The teacher thought “oh cute, he’s pretending to read” and then she got closer and realized he was actually reading the book. I said… “oh, yeah, he can read really well” She wanted to know what my secret to success was, and I told her.
First and foremost, he kinda came that way. He’s always been a really bright kid, so there is something to be said about the gifts they were given at birth. However, I did let him have somewhat free reign over the computer. Not that he was granted unlimited access, but I signed him up for a few different online educational subscriptions including abcmouse.com.
He loved ABCmouse while he was still learning basic preschool skills, and even for a few years afterward. He has since outgrown the service and has moved on to Scratch for coding and IXL for math.
The subjects on ABCMouse include Reading, Science, Social Studies and Math, and is broken out into levels based on age/grade. If your child has mastered the Preschool skills, they can move on to the harder levels at any time, no matter their actual age.
ABCmouse is having a huge sale! The service is currently 60% off for an Annual membership, making it only $45.00 for the entire year of education! The sale doesn’t last very long, so make sure you sign up as soon as possible!
